An innovative touch-screen insulin pump uses a simple interface that places everything at the touch of a finger.

The Tandem t:slim Touchscreen Insulin delivery system is a 300-unit insulin pump that has the footprint of a credit card and the look of a smart phone. The t:slim pump uses a unique insulin microdelivery technology that provides precision dosing and safety features not found on other pumps; while conventional pumps deliver insulin by applying pressure from behind the full contents of a syringe, the t:slim draws small amounts of insulin from its 300-unit reservoir into the microdelivery chamber before being delivered in increments as fine as 0.001 u/hr, at rates above 0.1 u/hr.

The Tandem t:slim is powered via a lithium polymer battery that charges through a micro-USB port and lasts for up to 7 days. The battery can also be maintained by charging for just 10-15 minutes at a time during daily activities such as showering, driving, or checking email. The device is recharged using a standard micro-USB cable, so that it can recharged anywhere, using a wall socket, a laptop, or even a car’s cigarette lighter.

The integrated micro-USB port also offers high speed transfers when downloading historical data from the device to the t:connect Therapy Management Software, a Mac and PC-compatible web-based software application. The Tandem t:slim Touchscreen is a product of Tandem Diabetes Care (San Diego, CA, USA), and has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
