X-ray imaging technology: the flat panel detector
At the end of the passed century, as flat panel detector (FPD) is successfully developed, a new digital radiographic imaging was born---Digital Radiography( DR). As the DR technology is mature day by day, a variety of products of technical types are formed, and now DR technology widely apply in the clinical field. Experts predict, DR technology will gradually replace other X-ray photography technique as a common X-ray examination of the mainstream. With the static imaging problems are solved, FPD technology radiologists are expected to achieve dynamic imaging so as to solve the imaging and fluoroscopy problems in clinical radiology. For this reason, many manufacturers pay a lot of energy to carry out research and development. Several companies already have the ability to produce flat-panel digital angiography system, such as GE, Siemens, Shimadzu.
Current FPD can solve the low volume region and the incident X-ray quantum noise, reducing the electrical noise component, and it can make a good signal to noise ratio in a fluoroscopy. For FPD digital angiography system, FPD replace II-TV imaging chain in the traditional system, eliminating many steps of converts (II, optical system, camera, A / D converter), you can directly obtain digital images from FPD, preventing the distortion, noise and resolution decreased caused by numerous aspects of transmission of the traditional image chain, and reducing the complexity of the external control, so control is more straightforward. FPD digital angiography system shows the technological superiority that the traditional Angiography II-TV system can not be compared.
Compared with conventional DSA system, FPD digital angiography system has many advantages:

(2), Large dynamic range of imaging (10 times the conventional DSA system), and more convenient for image post-processing;
(3), Higher detective quantum efficiency (DQE) and modulation transfer function (MTF) ;

(5), Radiation dose is low. some companies said that FPD can reduce dose 60% than conventional DSA system;
(6), persistence is small, and eliminates the geometric distortion at the edge. The image without too white or too black area, and no saturation artifacts. high image quality, especially for low-density catheter, guide wire and brackets, and other image display clear.
So far, digital FPD angiography system and conventional digital angiography system is well-matched over imaging quality. But with its technology is stable and mature, the FPD shows a great potential for development. In the long run, the future of digital FPD angiography system will be better.
