Russia, ROK, DPRK discuss resumption of Six-Party Talks
MOSCOW - Russian authorities held talks here Thursday with a South Korean delegation on the resumption of the Six-Party Talks, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said.
The spokesman also revealed the Russian side would also meet a visiting delegation from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), but stressed there would be "no tripartite meetings."
"Talks between Deputy Russian Foreign Minister Alexei Borodavkin and South Korean chief nuclear negotiator Lim Sung-nam started today," Lukashevich told a press conference here, adding the two sides had exchanged views on several issues related to the resumption of the Six-Party Talks, which groups Russia, China, the US, Japan and the two Koreas in negotiations for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
"On October 28, the Foreign Ministry will also host talks between First Deputy Russian Foreign Minister Andrei Denisov and Borodavkin and DPRK's First Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Kye-gwan," Lukashevich said.
However, the spokesman didn't reveal more details about the meetings.
The Six-Party Talks were launched in 2003, but became bogged down in December 2008. The DPRK pulled out of the talks in April 2009.
