PA DEP: Second Quarter Mammography Report Shows All 114 Inspected Facilities Meeting Standards
All 114 mammography facilities inspected by the Department of Environmental Protection during the second quarter of 2006 are operating within guidelines set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, according to DEP Secretary Kathleen A. McGinty.
DEP inspects each of Pennsylvania's approximately 400 certified mammography facilities annually under a contract with the FDA, which sets standards for these facilities under the federal Mammography Quality Standards Act.
The inspections are part of an ongoing effort to ensure a high degree of proficiency in the maintenance and operation of sophisticated equipment used to conduct the tests.
DEP has been releasing quarterly reports since April 2004 and making the information available by partnering with the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition.
For information on locating regional mammography facilities by zip code or county to see when the latest inspection for a facility was conducted, go to http://www.depweb.state.pa.us, Keyword: "Mammography."
