A new picture archiving and communications system (PACS) solution provides full-featured echocardiography image and reporting capabilities.

Agfa HealthCare (Mortsel, Belgium), a leading provider of information technology- (IT)-enabled clinical workflow systems, diagnostic imaging systems, and cardiovascular image and information management systems (CVIS), presented its completely integrated CVIS-radiology PACS at the 18th annual American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) Scientific Sessions in June 2007 in Seattle, WA, USA.

The PACS is a result of the combined technologies of Agfa HealthCare and Heartlab, Inc. (Westerly, RI, USA). Agfa HealthCare acquired Heartlab in 2005, following two years of strategic collaboration. Effectively combining their complementary technologies has resulted in the creation of a powerful range of integrated systems for cardiology diagnosis workflow. Agfa HealthCare’s CVIS is suitable for multimodality cardiology environments. It includes cardiac catheterization, echocardiography, non-invasive vascular, nuclear cardiology, and ECG (electrocardiogram) data management to create a single integrated cardiovascular information system. The product suite provides fast, robust, and secure access to important cardiology information. Built to satisfy the most demanding clinical workflow, the CVIS delivers innovative features, including multimodality cardiovascular image review, tightly integrated structured results management, and vendor-neutral ECG management.

A primary goal for the Cath Lab at Genesis was to establish a more streamlined process for the archiving and retrieval system. The goal has been met because of the Agfa HealthCare CVIS, by decreasing the amount of time involved in processing, archiving and retrieving procedures, which in turn is cost-effective. The exams are now readily available for viewing by staff and physicians from any of their work sites.
