Integrated Workstation Evolves with Changing Clinical Laboratory Needs
The new configuration of an integrated workstation allows for laboratory automation in a very small footprint.
Several enhancements have been made to the scalable automation system, the StreamLab analytical workcell. These new enhancements will enable clinical laboratories of all types and sizes to install automation in a smaller space and to take advantage of new capabilities such as connectivity to a new middleware data management system.
The clinical diagnostics company, Dade Behring (Deerfield, IL, USA), included the enhancements in its StreamLab workcell. The automated workcell now has a 90° track-turn configuration. Flexibility with the configuration allows a laboratory to install the system in corners and around columns, minimizing the renovation costs commonly incurred when installing automation and additional analyzers.
The work cell can be connected to the EasyLink informatics system, a middleware software program that improves data management capabilities between the StreamLab analytical workcell, multiple diagnostic systems, and a laboratory information system (LIS). In addition, a tube sealer applies a seal to patient samples. This allows for hands-off sample management, accommodates a variety of tube sizes simultaneously, protects the integrity of patient samples, and helps minimize laboratory personnel's exposure to biohazards.
