6.9-magnitude quake hits Loyalty Islands

BEIJING - An earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale jolted the Loyalty Islands in the South Pacific Ocean at 8:19 p.m. Saturday (Beijing Time), according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.
The epicenter, with a depth of 20 km, was monitored at about 22.1 degrees south latitude and 170.3 degrees east longitude, the center said in a statement.
